- How to make perfect soil mixture for Bonsai
Bonsai Soil Option 1:
Something that will suite for Ahmedabad Climate is

1/3rd Part - Brick Bites or anything that retain water/moisture
1/3rd Part - Vermi Compost
Bonsai Soil Preparation Method

Bonsai Soil Preparation Method:
Put Granite Pieces at the bottom of the pot. Mix Brick Bites, Sand & vermi compost & plant the tree in this mixture. This mixture is ideal for Bonsai Tree that need less water like Jade, Adenium, Bougainvillea, etc. Top it up with Moss or a suiseki stone.

Important thing is that using a sieve, remove the fine dust which is there in Sand/Soil which disrupt drainage & aeration. Remember the golden rule, Free & loose soil mixture will result in Good root growth, which in turn will result in Good growth of tree.

Bonsai Soil Mixture Experiment for Growing Bonsai in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Hot & arid Environment
I recently read that Bonsai can be grown in medium without soil & hence thought of experimenting with the following soil mixture.
- I made brick bites & than crushed it further
- I sieved brick grains (brick bites of sand grain size)
- I washed the Brick grains thoroughly to remove the brick dust.

How to plant Bonsai Tree in this Mixture:

- Spread Gravel at the bottom of the tray
- Mix Brick Bites (1/2 Inch in size) with Brick grains
- Pot the bonsai tree in this mixture in a tray

Brick Grain is great at water absorption & yet does not turn soggy like soil. This gives roots to spread easily & evenly. If anyone of you experiments with this Bonsai Soil Mixture, I will love to know as how your plant reacts. Updt on 14th May, my jade plant in Brick Soil Mixture has failed. I'll try again, for I am sure this thing should work.

If for some reason you have to buy Bonsai in Ahmedabad to gift someone, than I suggest you keep the following points in mind;
- Bonsai is not a tree chopped & planted in a pot, but a tree in a miniature form.
- The trunk should be broader at Base & thin on top (taper)
- It should have multiple branches
- Each branch should have multiple sub branches
- A Clear natural form is visible, and there is nothing unnatural about it
- Greener the tree, the healthier it is
- The height of bonsai should be less than 1 Ft (shohin bonsai)
- If Bonsai height is more than 1 Ft, is should cost you above Rs.10,000 +
- If bonsai height is less than 6 Inches, it should cost you Rs. 25000 +
- Check if the tree you are buying is worth the money you are paying
- Check if the tree you are buying is visible in & around you in nature
- Check if Bonsai seller is willing to give Bonsai Buy Back guarantee, most professional Bonsai sellers will provide you Buy Back Guarantee
